Why was the Tata Nano from Indian suddenly unavailable in October 2008 in U.S. as previously planned? ?

Whaddaya mean ''suddenly?'' l never heard anything like concrete plans to bring the Nano to the US. It probably failed in safety standards or emissions testing pretty early in the process, which is why they've had to shelve plans to import it, assuming plans actually existed.

It is about as cheap as they come - a nice motorcycle costs more. Cut that many corners and it is going to be pretty hard to make a vehicle safe enough to import, let alone attract any buyers.

because the big oil and gas guzzling companies like gm, toyota, honda, ect know their screwed if they bring it here in the states
but if it came, they will try to kill it like the EV, our past hope to be oil free

Tata Nano was planned to be launched in India by October but due to violent protest in the West Bengal State by the opposition party. Tata relocated their plant to Gujarat.

New plant & with its initial capacity of 250000 vehicles will be commissioned no sooner than 6 months from now.

Therefore Tata is already manufacturing Nano at their two satellite plants in Pune & Pant Nagar.

The initial batch of 40000 Nanos will be launched in the birthday of Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata, that is on 28'th December.

Nano will be launched in Europe between 2009-2010.
By then Electric, Diesel, Gasoline, Hybrid will be available.

Compresses Air(with MDI) & Hydrogen(with ISRO due to their expertise in cryogenic engines) version r also in pipeline but seem very unlikely.

Sadly Tata has not announced their Plans for USA. That is probably due to anti-small-vehicle regulations that benefits Gas-Guzzlers & Exxon Mobil.

BTW Tata Nano has passed street homologation requirements, like frontal-side-offset impact tests.

It is a simple car but a good one at that.

Tata Nano wo not be coming to the U.S. It might enter Europe, but that is only after a few more years and a few modifications later. It will be launched in India only in December or January. So l guess l have answered your question. Do give me a thumbs up. :)
